A person needs to possess certain skills in order to be considered for a management position; however, these skills would not suffice if he does not receive proper training as well. Most companies these days have now recognised the importance of properly training their management candidates so that they can ensure these employees would be truly effective once they are placed in positions of responsibility. Therefore, they have taken the needed steps to identify the personnel within their organisations who have shown the potential of being good managers. Some of the qualities which a management trainee needs to improve on are his communication skills, organisational abilities, and mentoring techniques.
Communication skills are vital in the workplace since a manager needs to ensure that his subordinates are aware of their duties in order to perform the best job that they can. He also needs to make sure that his employees are not hesitant to approach him in case there are any problems so that these may be dealt with promptly and effectively. Meanwhile, organisational abilities are important so that a manager can successfully handle a number of workers with different personalities and various tasks in a manner that would ensure harmony and productivity within the office. He needs to be able to balance the different needs of each employee so that conflicts can be prevented and the jobs can get done. Finally, mentoring techniques are essential since it is a manager’s duty to make sure that each employee does the best that he or she can. So he must be able to teach them how to handle their responsibilities or simply inspire them to work harder.
